Project:
Delta Diablo Sanitation District Headworks Improvement Project
Location:
Antioch, CA
Role & Description:
Acting as a Field/Office engineer with Psomas (previously The Covello Group), my team and I worked as consultants with Delta Diablo Sanitation District to complete this capital improvement project. The overall goal of the project was to improve the headworks (intake) system of the wastewater plant. This involved planning and completing a temporary bypass of the 25.5 MGD headworks of the plant. One of the largest intake bypasses that my company had been part of. During the bypass, the headworks channels were recoated, new intake barscreens were retrofitted into the existing channels, new belt conveyor and washer-compactors were installed. After completing this portion of the project, outages were coordinated to shut down one grit chamber at a time to recoat them, install new grit pumps and blowers, and refurbish the existing grit classifiers.
My role had an emphasis on following the plans and specifications of the job. This involved:
Coordinating and leading team meetings with the owners, engineers, and contractors
Outages planning & documentation - creating System Outage Requests
Reviewing Submittals and sending them to the engineer when necessary
Reviewing RFIs and submitting them to the appropriate party to get answers
Inspecting and documenting contractor work and progress
Providing necessary answers to field design-related questions
