Ultraviolet Light Filtration Socket Wrench
Ultraviolet Light (UV) filtration is critical to eliminate harmful bacteria in seawater. The Monterey Bay Aquarium uses UV light to assist in the filtration of the outgoing seawater so exotic captive species do not infect the native ecosystem that the Aquarium’s outgoing seawater eventually leads to. Part of the maintenance for these UV systems is to replace their UV bulbs every so often to make sure the UV system is operating as efficiently as possible. To do this, a special socket wrench tool is needed. I reverse-engineered the design for this part using the bulb nuts that are specific to a certain brand of UV. I 3D printed the model using ABS filament and glued it to a PVC assembly. This new special socket wrench has been used for maintaining the UV systems since 2024.
