Quality of Life Plus (QL+) Quarterly Design Project 2017

Tasked with a very open goal of designing a helpful attachment that can fit onto a universal leg socket for a lower leg amputee, a team of three others and myself began ideation on what to do in regards to this human centered design. We settled on the idea of creating a mermaid fin attachment for children who have single or double lower leg amputations. The design centered around the idea that amputees should embrace their uniqueness. Rather than trying to only keep up with non-amputees, this group has the unique ability to replace the specific limb with any tool that they desire on any specific day. These tools can perform specific tasks even better than a human leg could! The team wanted these lower leg amputees to have something that only amputees could have, and non-amputees would envy! The team completed a SolidWorks model and presented at the end of the year banquet. Our team won first place in the design competition with 15 other teams competing!
